I think we’ve all been there: We knit a pair of socks for the little ones. Then they have a growth spurt and the socks don’t fit any more, after being worn just a few times.

Tube socks without a heel are the perfect solution, they kind of grow with your child, and when they really don’t fit any more, you can make the next size up.

Of course, adults might want tube socks too, even though we won’t outgrow them any more. They are just comfortable to wear, since they can’t twist in a way that the heel ends up in the wrong place and bunches up in your shoes.

So, I created Socks for Gnomes and Giants, which come in most sizes from newborn to adult large. Perfect for Gnomes, Fairies, Giants and everything in between.

This free pattern only contains the instructions for the toddler size with one option for cuff and toes.

You will need about 170 m – 185 yds of fingering weight yarn and your preferred needles for knitting in the round. I used 2.5 mm needles to get gauge.

This is the FREE knitting pattern for toddler size. The full pattern comes with two options for the cuff and two for the toe. It has a total of 7 sizes. Full Pattern can be bought in my shop.

Free knitting pattern – simple fingerless mitts

a ribbed fingerless mitt on the hand of a white person, The mitt has very thin stripes in rainbow colours

a ribbed fingerless mitt on the hand of a white person, The mitt has irregular stripes in two shades of grey

A fairly straightforward pattern for fingerless mitts made with sock yarn, that can be easily adapted to other yarn weights or additional sizes.

The pattern might be simple, but due to the stretchiness of the ribbing, it will fit most hand sizes and can easily be adjusted by adding a multiple of 5 stitches. Go bold with a bright, variegated skein of yarn, or use a neutral, solid colour, make them your own.

Materials :
120 – 150 m / 130 – 165 yards of fingering weight yarn
2.5 mm or 3 mm (US size 1 or 2) set of dpns or circular needle for magic loop

Gauge:
Gauge isn’t all that important, due to the stretchiness of the ribbing pattern.
Use a needle size that gives you a nice fabric.

Sizes:
women’s S/L

Free crochet pattern in PDF format.

All children love to dress up, and my son wanted to Be a Knight. So I grabbed some yarn and a hook and made him a helmet that would keep him warm as well if he decided to wear it outside.

He loved it and used it until it absolutely didn’t fit any more.

Here is the pattern for your personal use, so your child can play knight as well.

Pattern is written in US crochet terms.

You need about 50 g of sport or DK weight grey yarn, adding a silver crochet thread is optional. Crochet hooks 3 mm and 4 mm as well as a stitch marker are necessary. You will work in spiral rounds for the most part, please mark the last stitch of every round with the stitch marker or some scrap yarn.
